How long do gutter guards last?

Professional-grade gutter guards — especially stainless micro-mesh on an aluminum or steel frame — typically last many years and often carry long warranties. Cheap plastic or foam inserts degrade in UV and weather much faster. Lifespan depends on material quality and correct installation.

Quality matters enormously here. Stainless-steel micro-mesh resists rust and UV and holds up for the long term, which is why those systems often come with extended workmanship and product warranties. Aluminum perforated guards are also durable. By contrast, foam and brush inserts and thin plastic screens break down within a few years, sag, and become debris traps themselves.
