A gutter hanger is the bracket that fastens the gutter to the fascia. Modern hidden hangers clip inside the gutter and screw into the fascia, holding pitch and supporting the weight of water and debris.
Hangers carry the load of the gutter plus the water and debris inside it. Older spike-and-ferrule systems loosen over time and let runs sag; modern hidden hangers screw securely into the fascia and disappear from view. When hangers fail, gutters pull away from the house, lose their pitch, and overflow — and the extra weight from clogs accelerates the failure. Re-securing or upgrading hangers and resetting the pitch is a standard repair that brings a sagging gutter back into service.
