The earliest settlers in Lansdale were the Jenkins family, who, at the peak of their growth, occupied around 120 acres of land. The North Pennsylvania Railroad, later absorbed by the Reading Railroad, set the stage for Lansdale's development in the 1850s. Officially incorporated in 1872, Lansdale was named after Phillip Lansdale Fox, the chief surveyor of the North Penn Railroad. Over the years, the borough has preserved its rich history, including the Jenkins Homestead and the Lansdale Silk Hosiery Compy-Interstate Hosiery Mills, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Downtown Lansdale is home to a unique piece of art—the Kugel Ball. This 2,200-pound dark grey granite sphere is a mesmerizing sight at Railroad Plaza, adjacent to the SEPTA Lansdale/Doylestown Line train station.
