Welcome to Collegeville, PA, a charming borough located in Montgomery County, just outside the bustling metropolis of Philadelphia. Nestled along the scenic Perkiomen Creek, Collegeville is a place where history, education, and modernity intersect. As the proud number 1 Gutter Guard contractor in Collegeville, All Pro Gutter Guards is delighted to serve this thriving community.
Long before it became a borough in 1896, the area that now constitutes Collegeville was part of William Penn’s 1684 purchase of "All the land lying on the Pahkehoma." Collegeville's early history saw the construction of the significant Perkiomen Bridge in 1799, financed through a special lottery approved by the Pennsylvania Legislature. This vital infrastructure was such a cornerstone that the first post office in the area, established in 1847, was named Perkiomen Bridge.
The local educational establishments played an essential role in Collegeville’s name. Despite the common misconception, the borough was not named after Ursinus College, which was founded a year later in 1869. Instead, the name came into being when a train station was set up near the Pennsylvania Female College. To avoid controversy with existing institutions like the Freeland School and Perkiomen Bridge, the station was simply named "Collegeville."
Today, the Perkiomen Bridge and the adjacent Perkiomen Bridge Hotel enjoy the distinction of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Geographically, Collegeville sits at coordinates 40°11′8″N 75°27′30″W, covering a compact area of 1.6 square miles. Despite its small size, the borough boasts a hot-summer humid continental climate, making it a diverse ecosystem that spans USDA hardiness zones 7a and 6b.
Collegeville and its surrounding areas are on an economic upswing. Home to Ursinus College, the borough has also attracted significant pharmaceutical and chemical companies like Pfizer and Dow Chemical, which share a global research and development campus just outside the borough. Alongside them is a GlaxoSmithKline research and development facility. Moreover, the open-air shopping experience of Providence Town Center adds a modern flair to Collegeville's small-town charm.
As of the 2010 Census, the borough was home to 5,089 residents. With a diverse demographic fabric, the population comprises various racial backgrounds, indicating an inclusive and welcoming community. The borough has grown significantly over the years, with a median household income of $77,499 as of the last count.
Discover Collegeville for yourself—its history, its people, and its promise for the future. Whether you're visiting Ursinus College, taking a historical tour, or planning to settle down, you'll find something to love in this captivating borough.
