An end cap is the piece that closes off the open end of a gutter run. A failed or poorly sealed end cap is a frequent, easy-to-miss source of dripping and fascia staining.
Every gutter run that doesn't terminate in a corner needs an end cap to seal the end. They're crimped on and sealed, and the sealant eventually dries, cracks, and lets water seep out — often dripping straight down onto a walkway, deck, or the fascia below. Because the leak is small and intermittent, it's easy to overlook until staining appears. Resealing or replacing an end cap is one of the quickest, cheapest gutter repairs, and worth checking when you spot an unexplained drip at the end of a run.
